Larry's article last month points out the folly of downloading things  that look interesting, but may not be all they appear.

Along those lines, we have seen a rash of Windows computers the last few months with  "unsolicited commercial software" (most people call it spy-ware or parasites)  absolutely bringing their computer to it's knees.  We found a great website to troubleshoot the problem at doxdesk.com Just click on the "parasites" link on the left side of that page and you will be directed to a page that checks you out and offers repair advice. A word of warning however, some of the 'fixes' are not for the faint of heart.

A simple solution to stopping many pop up ads if you are running Windows is to download the pop up stopper at Google. It doesn't stop them all, but certainly helps, and the price is right (Free)! If you are using Safari on the Mac, you can simply elect to turn them off in your browser.
